Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Technical Writer with a background in the shipbuilding industry or a similar engineering-intensive field. In this role, you will create, edit, and maintain a variety of technical documentation including ship system manuals, maintenance guides, safety procedures, and engineering specifications. You will work closely with naval architects, marine engineers, and production teams to ensure that documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and meets industry and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain technical documents including operation manuals, assembly instructions, troubleshooting guides, and safety documentation for maritime vessels.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) such as engineers, designers, and project managers to gather technical information.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly content.
  • Ensure documentation complies with applicable industry standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, ISO) and company style guides.
  • Update documentation to reflect design changes, retrofits, or feedback from end-users.
  • Organize and maintain document libraries, version control, and technical content management systems (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence).
  • Conduct document reviews and manage feedback cycles across cross-functional teams.
  • Assist in developing templates, graphics, and visual aids to support textual content.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Marine Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical writing, ideally within the shipbuilding, naval architecture, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes related to shipbuilding.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficient in documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, Microsoft Office Suite, and illustration software (e.g., Visio, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks Composer).
  • Familiarity with content management systems and version control practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Comfortable working in shipyard environments or with on-site teams, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with defense/military vessel documentation (e.g., Navy specifications).
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements in the maritime sector.
  • Certification in Technical Writing or Technical Communication (e.g., STC, tekom).
